Project Scope
A new application experience for brick & mortar customers to create and purchase custom CBD tinctures as well as view recent offers and purchase history.
My Role
While at Big Sea, I led the creation of a usable, scaleable product set to be announced at a national conference and installed at all national locations thereafter.
Because a brand already existed and was being maintained by a separate design group, from an aesthetic lens, it was especially imperative that I quickly assimilated with them to create the most seamless product possible.
Creating from Scratch
One of the biggest challenges this project posed was consistently staying aligned with the original vision the client had. Because we were building from the ground up, ideas and “nice-to-haves” were proposed often. To balance this, our team had weekly touch points to not only stay aligned with the main vision but to also ensure we stayed on budget and on schedule throughout the lifeline of the project.
Connecting the Dots
One of the most critical tasks we had at an early stage was getting on the same “experience” page. I built user-flow maps to collaborate internally and to present to all the principle stakeholders.
The weekly touch points allowed for a healthy amount of ideating. Because most of these ideas were never completely fleshed out, the low-fidelity user-flows helped us quickly disseminate where the hierarchy lied and how it intertwined with their high level goals. It also illustrated how efficiently we were prepared to pivot, if needed.
All the Design
I was responsible for finalizing all the user-interfaces for the application including the Profile, Cart, and Build screens. I also coordinated meetings to concept and prototype development-vetted micro-animations that added a bit of refinement and movement to the overall experience. Regularly collaborating with the Your CBD Store design team was integral in ensuring the final product adhered to all brand standards.
Results
The application was scheduled to launch at a national conference in March 2020. Although the product was developed on time, Covid-19 caused the national announcement to be postponed. Your CBD Store is set to pilot the launch to a group of brick & mortars before a full US launch in 2021.
